Ancients heroes in Comics

Comics are books that contains a set of stories, told in little frames and speech bubbles. They appeared in the 30’s, and today, these which are the most reachable and sold are published in the two huge publishing companies : Marvel and DC Comics. The most well-known are still The Avengers and The Justice League.

Since decades, Comics were a part of children’s life, even adults could read them. They marked many generations, through movies, ads and games. Thanks to their success, we still enjoy reading this type of book nowadays.

If we look a bit more with attention, we can notice that they are many who refers to Greek and Roman mythology….

Indeed, if we take the example of the Comic “Injustice”, we can see that the most part of the characters are inspired by mythology, it shows us the mix between the comic universe and the Greek pantheon : the divine army, composed by Atlas, Hercules, Apollo Eros, Athena and Hermes, is fighting against Superman, Flash, Cyborg, Shazam, Wonder Woman, Yellow Lantern and Robin.

Like ancients heroes, comic’s heroes obtained their superpower further to a event independent of their wish, it could be radiations, stings, magic potions…

I comics, they are all gifted with craftiness and wisdom (which could be a personification of the goddess Metis, Athena’s mother). Actually, it’s especially in the appearance, stories and superpowers that we find the most the ancient influence, even if their social level and their role in a globalized society are similar in the both sides.
